In Other News #31 // Celebrating nonpolitical stories that bind us together.
I’m taking a different approach with today’s newsletter.
Chances are - like me - you’re a reader. (You are reading this newsletter after all! And I’m grateful for that!)
I am just now in the final pages of several books (yes, I usually switch between a few at a time), and I look forward to writing about them here In Other News. Two of them are written by outstanding women writers who I had the honor of meeting recently, so I have some additonal background info to share. So you have that to look forward to!
I’d also love to know what you’re reading. Reply here or send me a message to let me know — and consider this an open invitation through the summer. I’d love to loop back and include your insights in a future newsletter.
And in the meantime, I wanted to share a few additional helpful and hopeful links to those of you who love reading as much as I do.
First, despite what is often described as a bleak media landscape these days, one of my dear friends is in the process of founding a magazine, serving a gem of a Pennsylvania community – Mount Gretna, PA. Check out her website for Mount Gretna magazine, and please give her a follow on Facebook and Instagram. I am truly honored to be writing for the inaugural issue!
And chances are - like me - you cheer when top book lists of the year come out, including the best summer reads.
If you happen to need inspo for your summer reading, check out the summer reading list from NPR and The New York Times. I added quite a few titles to my reading wish list (as if I needed more)!
As a no politics zone, I will honor that, but I will also leave you with one more link to someone I truly have admired through the years — maybe even more so as time has passed. Give Dan Rather a follow on his Substack, “Steady.” I find his writing very much in line with his journalism “back in the day.” It’s truthful and direct, written in a refreshing “tell it like it is” style.
Nature Nugget
A quick travel tip and photo, sharing incredible views, trails, or parks
A new addition to Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pa.: Mosaic artwork created by area Girl Scouts! Check out the incredible detail, below.
Luna Lens
Sharing a photo of my fluffy floofy dog Luna… because there’s plenty of fluff to go around.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in our lives… even “doggy dads.”
Comfort Corner
A great recipe, or a Spotify song. Comfort food or chill tunes. Maybe both.
A wonderful friend recently began utilizing recipes from one of my favorite sources, Forks Over Knives. Here’s a treasure trove: Their 30 most-popular recipes of all times, many of which I use regularly, including their veggie burger recipe. Enjoy!
Thanks for reading… and I wish you a wonderful week ahead!
Be well,
Karen
